Slide into the Tower of London Superbloom this summer

Historic Royal Palaces (HRP) has announced the next exciting stage in the development of The Tower of London’s ‘Superbloom’ celebration project this summer: a giant slide for visitors to slide down into the flower-filled moat below.

Officially launching in June, the Tower Superbloom project will see the Tower of London’s historic moat transformed into a floral celebration for the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty The Queen. 

Being brought to life in joint partnership with award-winning landscape architecture practice Grant Associates and the University of Sheffield’s Professor of Planting Design, Nigel Dunnett, the Tower Superbloom will celebrate the value and importance of nature to our collective wellbeing.

HRP has now revealed that visitors to the attraction will have the chance to enjoy sliding down a giant four-lane slide into the moat, with access to the moat also available by more conventional means too.

The 21ft slide, which takes about five seconds to travel on from top to bottom, has been recycled from the National Trust’s Cliveden House in Buckinghamshire where it has been in place since 2013 while repairs were made to a 350-year-old staircase. It will now be re-homed at the Tower of London, providing a memorable and immersive experience for Superbloom visitors.

“We want to give visitors to Superbloom the chance to arrive in the flowers with a sense of occasion and fun — and what better way to do that than entering the Tower of London’s moat via a huge slide?”

20 million carefully selected seeds are in the process of being sown in the Tower of London’s moat in anticipation for opening this summer, with the aim of creating a new habitat and green haven for pollinators, insects and seed-eating birds alike. Bath-based international landscape architects Grant Associates, the nature-focused practice behind 2021’s Best Show Garden at the Chelsea Flower Show, The Guangzhou Garden, and the world-renowned Gardens by the Bay in Singapore, is closely collaborating with key partners in the coordination of the overall visitor experience and technical design concept for the project.

The slide will add a particularly memorable dimension to the visitor experience at the start of their journey around the Moat.” 

The Tower of London Superbloom will be open from 1 June - 18 September 2022. Tickets need to be booked in advance and can now be purchased online.
